Many women in this situation who are considering breast augmentation also consider a breast lift. The procedures—both available at Dr. Ed Breazeale’s Knoxville practice—are different, but complementary.
A breast lift, in particular, gives many women a new, more youthful look by elevating their breasts and giving them a new contour. The procedure can also alter the nipple and areola areas so they will be sized appropriately and appear at an ideal height on the breast.
All of this combined will make your breasts have more projection, which means they’ll stand out more and appear to be perkier as opposed to hanging and sagging.

Who is a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
You may want to consider a breast lift if:
your breasts sag due to hereditary factors, age, or the effects of pregnancy and nursing.
implants inserted via breast augmentation would not make the desired difference.
your nipple and areola are larger than you would like.
one breast hangs lower than the other breast.
your breasts appear flatter or longer than you would prefer.
the skin on your breasts appears stretched and loose.
What Can You Expect From a Breast Lift?
A breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that requires that patients be sedated and undergo either local or general anesthesia.
There are several incision options, but the process at The Breazeale Clinic typically involves incisions around the areola and below the breast. These locations are chosen for a variety of reasons, including their ability to hide scars. Dr. Breazeale will reposition the nipple-areolar complexes higher as necessary, remove excess skin, reshape the breast, and move the breast into a position that will allow for greater projection. The end result will be breasts that project more and appear to be pointing outward instead of down.
An implant may be inserted as a part of this procedure, but that depends on a variety of factors—including health and the overall desired results.
After the surgery, you’ll wear a bra, keeping your incisions covered by light dressing. You’ll wear the bra itself for two to three weeks. This is the same time frame after which sutures are typically removed.
Discomfort just after the procedure can be controlled with medication that can be taken orally, and breast lift patients can resume normal light activities in just seven to 10 days.
There are some risks involved with a breast lift, as with all surgeries, though complications that occasionally occur tend to be minor. Talk to Dr. Breazeale about any concerns you may have.
